Expedition Overview

  • In Beijing, walk the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, then go out to Mutianyu.
  • Board the train in Beijing and cross the Qinghai-Tibet Railway onto the plateau.
  • In Lhasa, visit the Jokhang, watch the debate at Sera, and climb to the Potala Palace.
  • Drive over the pass above Yamdrok Lake and stop at Karola Glacier on the way to Shigatse.
  • Sleep near Everest Base Camp after Rongbuk Monastery, and watch the sunrise if the sky is clear.
  • See Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse before the return to Lhasa.

Itinerary

Your guide and driver meet you at the airport or railway station and take you to the hotel in central Beijing. The rest of the day is free to rest or walk nearby.

Getting in: Beijing has two international airports, Daxing (PKX) and Capital (PEK).

Foreign travelers need a Tibet Travel Permit, arranged through a licensed agency. Send the documents at least a week before departure. The Alien Travel Permit for the Everest section is included when the route requires it.
