Expedition Overview
- Walk Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City, then look back over the palace roofs from Jingshan Park.
- Ride out to Mutianyu and walk the wall, then see the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube from outside.
- Spend the morning in the Summer Palace before the high-speed train to Xi'an.
- Stand among the Terracotta Warriors, then walk the Xi'an city wall and the Muslim Quarter.
- Leave after the Shaanxi History Museum, a compact view of the dynasties based here.
Itinerary
Your guide and driver meet you at the airport or railway station and take you to the hotel in central Beijing. The rest of the day is free to rest or walk nearby.
Getting in: Beijing has two international airports, Daxing (PKX) and Capital (PEK).

After breakfast the guide meets you at the hotel for Tian'anmen Square, then walks you north into the Forbidden City. The palace has more than 8,700 rooms and was home to 24 emperors.
A 15-minute walk reaches Jingshan Park. From the hill, the palace roofs sit below the modern skyline.
If time allows, a rickshaw ride through the old hutongs fills the rest of the afternoon.

The drive northwest to Mutianyu Great Wall takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, around 73 km.
On the way back you stop for exterior photos of the Bird's Nest (Beijing National Stadium) and the Water Cube (Beijing National Aquatics Center). Both were built for the 2008 Games and used again in 2022.

After breakfast, visit the Summer Palace, the old imperial summer retreat of gardens, halls, and the lake.
The guide then takes you to the station for the high-speed train to Xi'an, about 4.5 to 5.5 hours. A local guide meets you at the station and transfers you to the hotel.

About an hour's drive, around 40 km, reaches the Terracotta Warriors, the army Qin Shi Huang had made for his tomb. About 8,000 figures were found.
After lunch, walk the Xi'an City Wall, one of the oldest and best-kept city walls in China.
Late afternoon is the Muslim Quarter, a lane of snacks and Muslim shops.
